Gymnastics - Promotes Social Well Being 

 

Sports and physical activity programs can introduce youth to skills such as:

  • Teamwork

  • Self Discipline

  • Sportsmanship

  • Leadership

  • Socialization

 

 

Gymnastics Camp - Recreation Lessons

(Boys & Girls ages 5 & up)

Skill development in tumbling, floor, balance beam, vault and bars in accordance with USA Gymnastics guidelines.  Groups are divided by ability level to ensure all gymnasts progress in a safe and appropriate manner.  Pre Level 1 (Beginner):  Basics of gymnastics are taught at this stage; Level 1 (Advanced Beginner):  Gymnasts enter this level after they have mastered a forward roll, backward roll and cartwheel.  Level 2 (Intermediate):  Gymnasts enter Intermediate after they have mastered a handstand, round-off, backbend, and have the ability to do one pull-up with the chin passing above the bar.   Lesson levels meet 12:15-3:15

Gymnastics Camp - Team Level

Gymnasts must be tested by the Director to be eligible for Team.  You must be able to do a backbend kick-over, handstand limber-stand, 3 pull-ups with the chin passing over the bar and one split.  Team meets 8:45-11:45 a.m. as follows:

Hershey Track & Field Program

Wednesday, May 7 (Rain Date: Wednesday, May 14). Events include runs, dashes, relays, softball throw and long jump for ages 9-14.  Flyers will be e-mailed through the Board of Education List Serve in April. Do not register using this brochure.CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE MEET RESULTS!

 

Minnechaug Golf Course - 2008 Junior Golf Camp
(Boys & Girls Ages 8-17)
Each golfer will be given instruction in the basic fundamentals of the game of golf. Instruction will include topics such as etiquette, rules of the game, putting, chipping, and full swing theory mechanics. The campers will be taken on the golf course to play a few holes as well. Appropriate for Beginner, Intermediate, & Advanced Golfers. To sign up, stop by the Minnechaug Pro Shop! FEE:                 The cost of the camp is $199 per session. This includes 16 hours of

                       instruction, balls, equipment, daily refreshments, and a camp souvenir. If you

                       do not have golf clubs we will supply them for you at no cost. Maximum of 24

                       campers per session. You must register through the Minnechaug Golf Course

                       Pro Shop.

Junior Golf Camp

(Boys & Girls ages 6-12 by start of the session)

Have a great time learning golf fundamentals.  Contests held and prizes awarded. 9:00 class is for ages 6-8 only; 10:30 and 12:00 classes are for ages 7 & up. Equipment provided for those who need it. Instruction provided by the Connecticut School of Golf. Meets rain or shine.

Kevin Ollie Basketball Camp

(Boys and Girls ages 9-18 by start of session)

Learn from Sixers Guard and former UConn star Kevin Ollie! Campers are grouped in age/skill levels and rotate through stations to work on development drills. Lecture topics including life lessons, nutrition and basketball will also be covered. And, of course, there will be plenty of contests and basketball games to test campers’ newly acquired skills!

Youth Open Gym

(Boys & Girls ages 18 and under and in high school)

Includes basketball and volleyball. Children under grade 7 must be accompanied by an adult. NOTE: You cannot register for this program on-line.

DATES:                   July 2- August 13

 

Glastonbury Running & Fitness Club

(Youth in grades 5 through 12)

A drop in distance running program that will not exceed a distance of 3 miles. Program will focus on plyometrics, hill training, interval speed, strength, and endurance workouts. Held Monday and Thursday from 6:45-8:00 p.m. at the Glastonbury High School Track from May 12-July 24. Instructed by Michael Graziosi, an experienced runner with almost 20 years experience in competitive running. No pre-registration necessary.

 

Skyhawks Skateboard Camp for Beginners

(Youth ages 6-12 by start of session)

Learn in this friendly environment that features stretching, games and skill development in skateboarding maneuvers. Participants will receive a Skyhawks t-shirt, but must provide their own skateboard, helmet, elbow pads and knee pads.

Skyhawks Mini Hawk Sports Program

(Boys & Girls ages 5-7 by the start of the session)

Promotes a philosophy of fun while teaching soccer, baseball and basketball. Non-competitive atmosphere provides individual attention while teaching basic skills and team strategies. Participants may enroll in a second session upon completion of the first on a space available basis. Each participant receives a t-shirt and ball.

Skyhawks Track & Field

(Youth ages 7-14 by start of program)

Combines technical development, fundamental techniques, and fun to introduce young athletes to Olympic style events. Exercises and drills are designed to prepare athletes for a future in cross country, track & field, distance running, and a lifelong love for being active. Teaches body positioning, stride, and proper stretching and cool-down techniques. Features a track meet at the end of the week!  All participants receive a t-shirt and merit award.
