Farm Festival

The Farm Festival held on September 21st was a tremendous success. Approximately 1000 people, most being children, enjoyed a beautiful day filled with historic demonstrations, tours, music, food, games and animals. Volunteers were numerous and the Society would like to thank them all for their many contributions. Carrie Rich and the House Docents, Barn Docents and Junior Docents did their usual professional job guiding the public and answering questions about the property. The Facilities Committee headed by Joe Greene and WSW chairman Jack Espenshade made sure the property and buildings were in tip-top shape. Heather & Bob Pulito did a wonderful job heading up the food and games for the kids. Numerous Key Club members from the High School who brought a spark to the festivities assisted the Pulitos. The store was run by Jean Greene and Sue Motycka. Security and parking was expertly handled by Bob DiBella, Mike Roberts and Aaron Pinto.
This year the animals belonged to:
Goats: Hershey & Oreo Owners: Allyson & Bob Snyder
Ponies: Sugar & Riah Owners: Meredith, Julia, Julie & Skip Kamis and Lila Daly
Llamas: Freedom and Splendor Owners: Natalie & Tom Erickson
Geese and Ducks Owner: Don Reid

Donations of apples, cider, cookies, pumpkins and farm supplies were made by:

  • Gardiner’s Market
  • Old Cider Mill
  • Melzen’s Farm Supplies
  • Rose’s Farm
  • Scott’s Orchard & Nursery
The presenters and demonstrators this year were the “Garden Club of Glastonbury” who sold plants and wreaths in addition to making sure the gardens were in their usual beautiful state for the day. Judy Harper from the Connecticut Audubon presented a sampling of the various smaller animals that inhabit our town. The South Glastonbury Grange displayed various farming tools and information regarding farming in Glastonbury. Don McIney demonstrated the art of Blacksmithing under the large maples in the front yard. Finally, the music was presented by the CT River Ramblers. Thank you all once again for your contributions to this wonderful day!
